Recently in CEPRO they provided an article on HDMI 1.4 and how this new cable affords both Data communication in addition to two-way audio.

For us designers/integrators who wrestle with HDCP, ICT, and who is really driving all of this copyright protection, this is advancement is a bonus.
Personal Comentary
One feature that will be sure to escape the awareness of the masses is the additional link added in the chain of governmental restraint. On the surface this appears like additional functionality. But with copyright holders leveraging the political machine, I personally think that we are heading in the direction of micro-transactional content(quality) delivery. Having been bitten by one the big guys and charted the legal quagmire one just needs to peel back the financial layers to discern the endgame. Where Sony was initially stealth in their strategy, the power brokers are becoming more brazen.
