Flat Panel Calibration

I can't tell you how many times I walk into an establishment only to see the images on flat panels look horrible. Who installed these things? I guess it is the same company who told the owner that they need a cable box for every display. A great deal for the cable company, but a poor design.

Unless someone is getting a display professionally installed by organizations "skilled in the art", the result is the box store hang and go. All of the displays that are sold through the box stores are pre-configured for the retailers show room floor. The box stores attempt to up-sell the feature of custom, on site calibration. While the high school kid may attempt to communicate the necessity of adjusting gray scale, or image saturation, this is sales speak and not technology speak. Just a quick digging under the box store hood will find that these "technicians" are not conversant with the same professionals trained through CTS.

In any event, HD Envy wrote a nice piece targeting the consumer audience. As professionals, we should remember to promote this type of value in each of our engagements, and not relegate it to normal procedure. Let's join an promote value for our industry.
