A blogger/author friend of mine has been challenging traditional thought. After posting a comment on his blog I pondered the context of his post as it relates to our business.
As a provider of a broad range of services in the domain of audio and visual systems we are continually challenged with Perception Vs Reality. In designing, and specifying a system we are constrained to the laws of physics. Room environments, ambient conditions, intended use, and many other factors play into a particular design and functional use.
However, their is another significant element which is completely subjective. The customers interpretation of quality, either auditory or visually. What is one persons view of a Picasso is another's 3rd graders fugue of colors.
Our challenge is to do our best in "discerning" the clients Reality, while delivering solutions which satisfy their Perception.
How often are we presented with the statement, why doesn't it look/sound like what I saw in your showroom. Or, why don't my graphics look like company XYZ? Traditionally this is directly related to financial considerations. Others are not. The others I refer to are a function of how we communicate to our clients, with clarity, how something is going to appear or sound.
Thus, we prefer to engage our clients by "Questioning Reality".
